How to Prepare for a Lash Extension Appointment: 10 Tips for Better Results

Why Preparation Affects Your Results
How you prepare for a lash extension appointment directly impacts adhesive bond strength, lash retention, and the quality of the final result. Clients who follow pre-appointment guidelines consistently experience longer-lasting, more even extensions than those who do not.
These tips apply whether you are booking a first full set or a returning refill.
10 Steps to Prepare for Your Lash Extension Appointment
1. Arrive with Clean, Makeup-Free Lashes
This is the single most important preparation step. Any residue from mascara, eyeliner, or eyeshadow creates a barrier between the adhesive and the natural lash, weakening the bond from the moment of application.
Arrive with completely bare, clean lashes. If you cannot cleanse before leaving home, arrive 10–15 minutes early and we will cleanse them at the studio.
2. Remove Contact Lenses Before Your Appointment
Contact lenses must be removed before a lash extension service and cannot be worn during the procedure. The adhesive fumes, while minimal, can cause irritation to contact lens wearers. Bring your glasses case.
3. Avoid Oil-Based Products Around the Eyes That Day
On the morning of your appointment, skip eye cream, oil-based SPF near the eyes, and serums. Oil weakens the adhesive's curing process and is the leading cause of premature extension loss.
4. Skip Caffeine or Limit Intake
High caffeine intake causes subtle eye twitching that makes precise individual lash application harder. This does not mean avoiding coffee entirely — simply limiting intake on appointment day can noticeably improve comfort and precision.
5. Do Not Curl Your Natural Lashes
Eyelash curlers create kinks and bends in the natural lash that interfere with smooth extension bonding. Come with your lashes in their natural state.
6. Shower Before Your Appointment
You will not be able to wet your lashes for the first 24–48 hours after application. Plan your hygiene routine accordingly and shower before you arrive at the studio.
7. Wear Comfortable, Loose-Fitting Clothing
A lash extension appointment requires lying still for 1.5 to 2 hours (or longer for volume sets). Wear clothing you can relax in completely. Avoid turtlenecks or collars that restrict lying flat.
8. Eat a Full Meal Before Arriving
Hunger during a 2-hour appointment is distracting. Have a substantial meal before you come in. Avoid large amounts of sugar beforehand, which can increase restlessness.
9. Build Buffer Time Around Your Appointment
Do not schedule commitments immediately before or after. Arriving rushed causes stress that is visible in the result. Leaving with flexibility lets you relax fully and enjoy the experience.
10. Share Your References and Concerns
Before we begin, communicate clearly:
- Any previous reactions to lash adhesive or products
- Known eye sensitivities or allergies
- Your desired look and any reference images
- Upcoming events or reasons you are booking
The consultation before your appointment is there to ensure the result matches your expectations precisely.
What to Expect During a Lash Extension Appointment
You will lie on a comfortable treatment bed with your eyes closed for the entire service. Lower lashes are protected with a soft adhesive pad. The experience is completely painless — the most common comment from clients at Beauty Power Studio is that they fell asleep.
A faint chemical scent from the adhesive is normal and dissipates within minutes of the appointment finishing.
Aftercare for the First 48 Hours
- No water, steam, sweat, or swimming
- Avoid touching or rubbing the lash area
- Sleep on your back or use a silk pillowcase
- Do not apply mascara or eye makeup
