How to Keep Lash and Brow Results Longer at Home

Quick answer

Brush lash extensions daily with a clean spoolie, cleanse them every 2-3 days with an oil-free lash cleanser and sleep on your back or side. Brush laminated brows upward each morning. Between brow appointments, remove only clearly stray hairs below the shape with precise tweezers, and leave the rest for your artist. Avoid oil-based products near lashes and brows.

Your Results Last as Long as Your Routine

A great lash set or brow shape starts in the studio, but how long it looks great depends on what you do at home. Two clients can leave the studio with identical sets: one still looks full three weeks later, the other has gaps after ten days. In most cases, the difference is aftercare.

The good news is that a few minutes a day is enough. Here is the simple routine Viktoryia Tsishko recommends to clients after 18 years of lash and brow work, for lash extensions, lash lifts, laminated brows, tinted or henna brows and waxed skin, plus the tools that make it easier.

Lash Extensions: The First 24 Hours

The adhesive keeps curing for about a day after your appointment. Protect the bond during this time:

  • Keep lashes dry. No washing your face over the eyes, no steam, sauna, swimming or hot yoga.
  • No eye makeup around the lashes.
  • Do not rub or touch your lashes.
  • Sleep on your back the first night if you can.

Lash Extensions: Daily and Weekly Care

  • Every morning: brush lashes gently with a clean spoolie, from the middle to the tips. This keeps them fluffy and separated and helps them sit in the right direction after sleep.
  • Every 2-3 days: cleanse with an oil-free lash foam and a soft brush, then rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry. Clean lashes hold better, because natural skin oils, makeup and dust weaken the bond over time.
  • At night: sleep on your back or side, not face down. A silk pillowcase reduces friction.
  • Avoid: oil-based makeup removers and creams near the eyes, waterproof mascara and rubbing your eyes.
  • Do not pick or pull loose extensions. Leave them for your refill, so you do not take natural lashes with them.
  • Book refills every 2-3 weeks. On-time refills keep the set even and are the most affordable option.

A Simple Weekly Lash Cleansing Routine

  1. Remove eye makeup with an oil-free remover on a cotton pad, pressing gently instead of rubbing.
  2. Wet your lashes with lukewarm water.
  3. Apply a small amount of oil-free lash foam with a soft, fluffy brush.
  4. Brush gently downward along the lashes and the lash line for about 30 seconds.
  5. Rinse thoroughly with water.
  6. Pat dry with a lint-free towel, or let them air dry.
  7. Brush through with a clean spoolie once dry.

Lash Lift: Easy Upkeep

  • Keep lashes dry for 24 hours.
  • After that, brush them up in the morning.
  • Skip the lash curler. It can bend or break lifted lashes, and you do not need it.
  • Mascara is fine after 24 hours. Choose a non-waterproof formula that is easy to remove.
  • Remove makeup gently, without pulling on the lashes.
  • Rebook every 6-8 weeks, when your new lashes have grown in.

Brows: Keep the Shape Between Visits

  • Laminated brows: brush them upward every morning. A clear brow gel adds extra hold. Avoid oils on the brows, which soften the setting.
  • Tinted or henna brows: avoid exfoliating and oily cleansers directly on the brows to keep the color longer. Sunscreen helps the stain last.
  • Stray hairs: remove only hairs that are clearly outside your shape, such as between the brows or far below the arch. Leave the shape itself to your artist, so it grows in evenly until your next appointment.
  • Do not over-tweeze. It is easy to remove a few too many hairs in a magnifying mirror. If in doubt, leave it.

Waxed Skin: Smooth for Longer

  • Skip heat and intense workouts for 24 hours after waxing.
  • Use sunscreen on freshly waxed skin.
  • Exfoliate gently two or three times a week, starting a few days after waxing, to prevent ingrown hairs.
  • Do not shave or tweeze between waxing appointments, so hairs stay on the same growth cycle.

Products to Avoid Near Lashes and Brows

Product Why
Oil-based makeup removers and cleansing balms Dissolve the extension bond and soften lifts and lamination
Waterproof mascara Needs oily removers and clumps extensions
Rich eye creams on the lid Oils migrate to the lash line
Lash curler (with lifts or extensions) Bends or breaks lashes
Strong exfoliating acids on brows Fade tint and henna faster

The Right Tools Make It Easier

Viktoryia founded Beauty Power, a line of professional beauty tools, so clients can maintain salon results between visits. A few favorites for lash and brow care:

  • Ultra-Precision Tweezers. Hand-sharpened German stainless steel tips grab a single stray hair cleanly, without breaking it. Ideal for the few hairs that appear between brow appointments.
  • Eyebrow Razor. For removing peach fuzz around the brows and face, so makeup looks smoother. Do not use it right before or after waxing, and keep it away from the brow shape itself.
  • Peptide Lash & Brow Conditioner. A peptide formula for natural lashes and brows, a nice addition for lash lift clients and for brows between appointments. If you wear extensions, ask your artist before using any serum near the bond.

Beauty Power tools have won Allure Best of Beauty in 2025 and 2026. Shop Beauty Power or learn about the brand.

Your First Two Weeks With New Lashes

When What to do
Day 1 Keep lashes completely dry, no makeup near the eyes, sleep on your back
Day 2 First gentle brush in the morning; you can wash your face carefully
Days 3-7 Daily brushing, first cleanse with oil-free foam
Week 2 Cleanse every 2-3 days; a few extensions shedding is normal
Week 2-3 Book your refill so the set stays full

It is normal to see a few extensions on your pillow or in the sink. Natural lashes shed every day, usually a few per eye, and extensions shed with them. What is not normal is losing many extensions in the first two or three days. If that happens, contact your artist.

Common Aftercare Mistakes

Skipping cleansing because you are afraid of losing lashes. The opposite is true: oil and makeup buildup weakens the bond. Clean lashes last longer.

Using a cotton pad or wipes on extensions. Fibers catch on the lashes and pull them. Use a soft brush instead.

Rubbing eyes when they itch. Press gently with a clean finger or use a cool compress.

Trimming extensions at home. Uneven ends can poke and look unnatural. Let your artist adjust the set.

Over-tweezing brows between appointments. Removing hairs from the shape makes it harder for your artist to create a full, even brow next time.

Questions Clients Often Ask

Can I use regular face wash around my lashes? Many face washes contain oils or heavy creams. Use an oil-free cleanser around the eyes, or cleanse your face first and your lashes separately with lash foam.

Can I wear eyeliner with extensions? Yes, an oil-free liner that removes easily is fine. Avoid pencils that drag along the lash line.

How do I fix lashes that look messy in the morning? Brush them through with a clean spoolie. If they still look twisted, a gentle steam-free cleanse and brushing usually fixes it.

Lifestyle Habits That Help

  • Sleep. Side or back sleeping protects lashes, and good sleep reduces puffiness.
  • Workouts. Sweat is fine after the first 24 hours, but dab your eyes with a clean towel rather than rubbing.
  • Swimming. Chlorine and salt water can dry lashes; rinse and brush them afterward.
  • Allergies. If your eyes itch in allergy season, talk to a doctor about relief, because rubbing costs lashes.
  • Glasses and masks. Make sure frames do not press on your lashes.

A Note on Natural Lash and Brow Health

Whatever service you choose, your natural hair is the foundation. Healthy natural lashes hold extensions better and lift more evenly; healthy brow hairs take tint and lamination beautifully. A few things support them:

  • Give lashes a break when they need it. If your natural lashes look thin or weak, your artist may suggest a lighter set or a lash lift for a while.
  • Be gentle when removing makeup. Pulling and rubbing are the most common causes of lash loss.
  • Eat well and sleep enough. Hair reflects your overall health.
  • Ask about changes. Sudden lash or brow loss can have medical causes. If you notice it, talk to your doctor.

Signs It Is Time for an Appointment

  • Your lash extensions have visible gaps or many lashes have grown out
  • Your lifted lashes look straight again
  • Your laminated brows no longer stay up on their own
  • Your brow shape has grown in and looks soft around the edges
  • Fine facial hair is back

Frequently asked questions

01How do I make lash extensions last longer?

Keep them dry for 24 hours after the appointment, brush them daily, cleanse every 2-3 days with an oil-free cleanser, avoid oil-based makeup removers and do not rub your eyes or sleep face down.

02Can I tweeze my brows between appointments?

Yes, but only clearly stray hairs that are far outside your shape. Leave the brow line itself to your artist so the shape can grow in evenly.

03Can I use a lash curler after a lash lift or with extensions?

No. A curler can bend or break lifted lashes and pull out extensions. Your lift or extensions already give the curl.

04Can I use a lash serum with extensions?

Ask your lash artist first. Many serums are fine on natural lashes, but some formulas can weaken the extension bond. Applying a serum to bare lashes between treatments is the safest option.
